STUDY ON THE EFFECT OF WALL WASHER LUMINAIRES MOUNTED ON REAR CEILING ON CLASSROOM ON ENERGY SAVINGS

In Japanese primary schools, the energy use for lighting accounts for about 30 percent of the total energy use. It is usual that all of the ceiling luminaires are lighted on by the teachers, even if the students judged supplementary artificial light is not necessary. Our previous study has suggested that the wall washer luminaires mounted on rear ceiling in classroom could reduce ceiling luminaires by improving the teachers' brightness. The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of wall washer luminaires on the lighting environment and energy saving for lighting in classroom. Illuminance distribution in the classroom and luminance distribution from the viewpoint of the teachers were measured to identify the effect of wall washer luminaires. In addition, workshop concerning energy saving for lighting was conducted for both the students and the teachers to operate the lighting in the classroom properly. As the result, the lighting environment with the wall washer luminaires lighted on even in the case when the ceiling luminaires of the window side did not get worse than that with all of the ceiling luminaires lighted on. Also the workshop had good impact on energy savings for lighting.
