Reconstruction of Ice Drifting Lines in the Barents Sea, Using IFREMER Sea Ice Products

The knowledge of sea ice movement in the Arctic is very importantboth in the practical and pure scientific sense. We considered theBarents Sea, a dynamic region where sea ice can create problems forgrowing industrial activities, and analyzed ice drift in spring 2003-2016, covering the last cold period, rapid warming and ice retreat.Using IFREMER data, which derives drift vectors from satelliteimages, we obtained drifting lines and made inferences about possibleorigin and characteristics of sea ice in the southern Barents Sea. Theobtained lines can be used for verification of mathematical models.
