Long Term Evolution (LTE) is the starting point towards the 4th generation (4G) of cellular systems to increase the capacity, spectral efficiency and the coverage. LTE system also provides considerably high performance for real time multimedia services compared to the previous cellular networks. In LTE systems, downlink packet scheduling mechanism has a significant role to efficiently distribute the scarce radio resources to the users by considering the channel conditions as well as satisfying the quality of service requirements. In this study, performance comparison of various downlink packet scheduling mechanisms for real time traffic flows is evaluated in terms of packet loss ratio. Simulation results show that a modified downlink packet scheduling mechanism achieves high performance for real time traffic flows. Besides, it is illustrated that the performance of the discussed scheduling mechanisms vary depending on the number of users, speed of the mobile users and bit rate of the video flows.
