Since road safety is one of Daimler's core targets many safety technologies and systems have been introduced over the last decades. State of the art systems like the active brake assist significantly reduce the number of fatalities during road accidents. Initially systems evolved which could mitigate the severity of a road accident. Current systems are even able to avoid accidents, as soon as certain physical conditions are given. However the best accident avoidance is applied by the driver himself. Daimler invests lots of engineering capacity designing the best "coworking" balance between the safety system and the driver. Therefore autonomous accident avoidance is just the last mean in a valuable row of attempts to get the driver back into action. Even if the performance of autonomous acting systems continuously increase, there is a particular need to work on solutions and concepts which keep the driver in the loop or get him back as soon as necessary.
