The Special Case of North-Eastern India for the Production of LC~3

The feasibility of the production of LC~3 and LC~2 in the North-Eastern states of Assam and Meghalaya were studied. Although there are many cement plants in the region, fly ash is not available. The easy availability of kaolinitic clays in the vicinity of the cement plants makes a strong case for the production of LC~3 and LC~2 in the region. Several clays in the area were assessed and suitable clays with more than 50% kaolin and up to 80% kaolin were found to be abundantly available. Trial production using locally available materials was carried out and the physical and chemical characterisation of LC~2 and LC~3 were carried out. The results from these studies are presented in this paper.
