POLYETHYLENE TEREPHTHALATE SHRINK FILMS

Shrink films are manufactured primarily for labeling industry. They can be found on all cans, bottles and jars and variety of consumer goods. The heat shrink films market is projected to grow with about 7% growth per year. A new innovation in this field has been with solvent seaming shrink films. These films are made of polyethylene terephthalate polymer with neopentyl glycol added to PET resin, which allows for solvent seaming of these films. Solvent Induced crystallization was thoroughly studied in these films of thickness 36 microns. The X-ray diffraction results showed increased amorphous phase stability in films. The crystallite growth was found to be through heterogeneous nucleation in the microstructure of the film. FTir-ATR tests also confirmed this analysis.
