During hot forming the steel is re-heated several times. At the high temperatures necessary for the deformation of the steel in rolling or forging high temperature corrosion (scale formation) occurs. This leads to material losses and surface defects at the products and higher wear losses at the tools. Further the descalability of the scale is important to avoid material defects. Thus, research was carried out on the minimisation of scale formation and scale conditioning to influence the scale adhesion through diffusion-inhibiting coatings.
