Approximately 22 % of all total hip arthroplasty (THA) revisions in the USA are due to dislocation, 6.9 % due to periprosthetic osteolysis, and 5 % due to bearing surface wear. In Asian countries where the activities of daily living include squatting, dislocations and impingement are generally more frequent than in the western world. Also younger patients who have a longer life expectancy and a higher activity level require more durable and stable THAs and a larger range of movement (ROM).
