Revision Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction

Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) reconstruction is a successful operation with satisfactory outcomes; an overall clinical failure rate of 10-25 % has been reported. Therefore, an increasing number of patients are requiring revision ACL reconstruction. Revision of ACL reconstruction is a complicated and delicate clinical procedure whose results are theoretically less satisfactory than those of the first operation because further intervention is required in an area where anatomical landmarks may have been altered by previous procedures. The number of revision ACL reconstructions has almost doubled during the past 10 years according to National Registries.
