Landscape planning faces increasingly complex and interdisciplinary issues with ecological, social and economic implications on multiple scales such as climate change. The following paper addresses climate change impacts and possible adaptation and mitigation options on a landscape scale and, therefore, as a landscape planning problem. There is a gap between the state of climate research and its current consideration in planning. In this context, GIS and landscape visualization are potential tools for the integration of different models. The Kimberley Climate Adaptation Project (KCAP) case study demonstrates how the spatial outcomes of three mathematical computer models from two different disciplines, i.e. climate science and forestry, were integrated in a participatory scenario building process through a shared geodatabase and 3D landscape visualizations as a spatial platform to integrate quantitative model knowledge and qualitative local knowledge. It is the aim of the paper to demonstrate an approach to the integration of quantitative model knowledge in participatory processes that is based on affordable standard software and suitable for rural communities with limited resources.
