A novel scheme is proposed for ultrafast optical waveform sampling which uses the four-wave mixing in a dispersion-flattened highly nonlinear photonic crystal fiber (DF-FFNL-PCF). We report the first demonstration of an optical sampling gate by employing a 20m DF-HNL-PCF to observe the 160Gbit/s optical data signal with temporal resolution of 0.64 ps. The proposed scheme shows a potential of realizing wideband optical waveform sampling systems in a simple configuration.
