Magnesia-Spinel bricks have been widely used in transition zone in cement rotary kilns. However their wear rate has been increased recently due to increasing use of waste as fuel and raw materials. Based on the postmortem analysis of used bricks, we reconsidered the characteristics required for transition zone under the increasing use of waste and developed the Magnesia-Spinel brick suitable for present operating conditions. The developed brick was applied to the severe transition zone, where the conventional bricks were worn significantly, and showed excellent performance.
