摘要

This paper addresses the impact of population size, energy use, economic growth, and foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows on environmental degradation in Brazil, while FDI is a proxy for financial development. The proposed intelligent grey based data analysis (iGDA) is an excellent method for building dynamic analysis model. The findings indicate that Brazil does not apply weak environmental regulations to attract inward FDI; energy use and economic growth are closely related to environmental pollution; and that Brazil consumes energy-related products frequently. Therefore, energy conservation, energy efficiency enhancement, demand management, and financial development can be adopted in Brazil, which aims to curb energy waste, energy consumption, and emissions without weaking the country's competitiveness. The proposed methods may be used to investigate insight into the energy-economy-finance-population and environment nexus in other fast-growing markets.
