Valorization of Some Xylan Derivatives in Coatings (PPT)

1 Xylan provides a good starting polymer for modification of potential chemicals in film, coating and barrier applications. 2 Good barrier properties were demonstrated for coatings with xylan ether derivatives in oxygen and grease barrier, moderate for water vapor barrier. 3 A decrease in glass transition temperature was observed when esterified derivatives were prepared 4 The tested derivatives demonstrated reasonable performance as pigment coating binders for offset printing papers 5 Even better results are expected with further optimization and tailoring for both, barrier and pigment coating applications. 6 No industrial production of xylans yet for product development -> Opportunity in connection with production of dissolving pulp 7 The developed modification routes can be applied and adjusted for new sources of polysaccharides in agricultural or marine biorefineries.
