In this paper, we compare characteristics of attenuation and dispersion of six viscous acoustic wave equations using numerical methods. We compute wave fields by numerically solving the six wave equations for the same model and compare their frequency spectrum and quality factor calculated by the spectral ratio method. We derive the expressions of spectral ratio and phase velocity for the six wave equations and thus analyze their characteristics of attenuation and dispersion. Finally, we conclude that four of the wave equations have analogous characteristics of attenuation and dispersion. The other two wave equations are quite different.
