Introduction Improvements in Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) have advanced exploration through out history whether it was the exploration of the Old World, the exploration of the New World, or our ever expanding exploration within and beyond the Earth's surface. During the past three or more decades, the accuracy of PNT has increased by nearly a factor of ten every 10 years. This continuing improvement towards high accuracy PNT enables new exploration techniques and improved cost effectiveness. High accuracy PNT is the realm of modern geodetic science. In this presentation I will also explore the impact of these advances in geodetic science and its impact on the study of geopotential fields and geodetic imaging.
