Mill operations management has the primary goal of maximum production, within quality specifications, as cheaply as possible, without injury to personnel. Regulatory and advanced controls can be applied to manage each unit operation. Operator training improves the understanding at the floor level. However, one area not often fully appreciated is unified, intuitive use of the mill's information system, delivering communication horizontally and vertically between departments, for identifying potential problems and troubleshooting existing issues.
