Management of the mare post dystocia

Although a dystocia is a one-off setback in the mare's breeding career, it might have a negative effect on the mare's future fertility and quality of life. Resolving a dystocia successfully does not end in the delivery of a living foal: the prognosisfor survival of the foal and mare might be essential, but also the mare's future fertility should be maintained (Frazer 2011).
