Numerical Simulation of a TE_(10) Waveguide for Microwave Heating of Continuous Flowing Liquids

A microwave processing system has been developed for production of safe and stable dairy products in compliance with the EU standards for food safety and quality. This paper discusses the results of multiphysics numerical simulations performed in Comsol multiphysics to determine the suitable material of flow channels for dairy products, optimum flow rate subjected to the microwaves and optimum microwave power for corresponding flow rate of the dairy product. In addition, this paper discusses the results of simulations performed in CST Microwave Studio to ensure safety of continuous system and to determine the optimum feeding position of microwaves. The simulation results were followed by lab trials. The simulations and trials proved the system compliance with safe limit of 5 mW/cm~2 and compliance with microwave and food regulations of materials chosen for products' carrying channels.
