The Potential to Mitigate the Environmental Impacts of Broiler Production Systems Through Changes in Their Diets

Currently there is an increased interest in reducing the environmental impact of livestock systems (Steinfeld, Gerber, Wassenaar, Castel, Rosales and De Haan, 2006). Although non-ruminant systems of production appear to have lower environmental impact than ruminant ones (ADAS, 2006), they still have some prospect for improvement and thus there is the potential to reduce their environmental impact.
