Porcine circovirus type 2 diagnostic laboratory trends: Relationship between year and production phase

Porcine circovirus type 2 associated disease (PCVAD) emerged as a major threat to the US swine industry in 2006. Over the years, the disease has been most commonly observed in pigs in the early finishing (grower) phase of production or at 10-16 weeksof age. Fortunately, the disease has been fairly well controlled by vaccination and the number of positive cases at veterinary diagnostic laboratories has declined. Though cases of PCVAD still occur, the timing of the disease with regard to pig age appears to have changed over the past few years.
