West Seno Field, the first deepwater project in Indonesia, is a highly compartmentalized deepwater channel system. The primary recovery mechanisms are solution gas and/or gas cap drive with minimal aquifer support. Average annual decline rate is 30%, with base production fast approaching the field economic limit. A drilling campaign was launched in March 2012 to exploit reserves from reservoirs outside the reach of previous conventional drilling utilizing Extended Reach Drilling (ERD) technology. The project goal was to provide sustained high production rate throughout the reservoir life which required an innovative completion including effective sand control. A combination of Stand Alone Screen (SAS), Inflow Control Devices (ICD) and isolation packers was selected to meet the goals of improved reservoir recovery, completion reliability and sand control. Adopting multiple drilling and completion safeguards, all ERD wells were safely and successfully drilled and completed under budget, and with better production performance than predicted. This paper will share and highlight the lessons learned and successes, including the use of non-toxic tracers in the lower completion.
