Neurologic Disease in Raptors: Pesticide Toxicosis, A Cause That is Talked About but Rarely Diagnosed

Neurologic disease in raptors is very common and there are many etiologies including trauma, infectious disease as well as various toxins. The treatment and prognosis are very much dependent on a quick and accurate diagnosis. Clinical disease due to pesticide toxicosis is often referred to but little actual clinical data is available. This study will summarize the findings of cases involving disease the central nervous system in wild raptors. The findings indicate that pesticide intoxication is a common cause and should be included in any differential list for neurologic disease.
