Affluence versus Effluent: Retrofitting High-End Neighborhoods with Reclaimed Water Use (Lessons Learned.)

Seminole County is home to some of the most heavily landscaped upscale residential communities in the Central Florida area. The County identified these neighborhoods as large users of potable water for irrigation, and key candidates for retrofitting for reclaimed water use. The County commenced design of the retrofit in 2006, with Phase 1 complete in early 2008, and Phase 2 completed in 2010. Phases 3 through 5 are under design now. This paper will review some of the key pre-construction issues and post construction lessons learned that were encountered as part of the retrofit process.
