PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE OF ROTATING MACHINES IN SUGAR INDUSTRY BY USING VIBRATION MONITORING AND ANALYSIS

Indian sugar industry has occupied pivotal position in the agriculture economy of the country. It has provided live hood to millions people of rural area. To improve efficiency and viability of such large industry from the point of view of high productivity and good economy, it is essential to make concrete efforts towards reduction of break downs and maintenance cost of the machines used in sugar industry. Vibration monitoring and analysis technique is effective tool that can be used for preventive maintenance of rotating machinery in sugar industries. Measurement of overall vibration levels of machine tells about its health condition and vibration analysis in the event abnormal condition provides information about the nature of mechanical faults that occur within the machine. Early detection of faults avoid catastrophic failures and thus results in to less damage of machine parts, shorter repair time ,more availability of machine and improved plant safety. The present article highlights the methodology being used for preventive maintenance for machines in sugar industry and findings based on research work in this area.
