A method for detecting vibration signatures in a reversible drive, said method including the steps of: acquiring (110) digital data representative of vibrations in the reversible drive, wherein the reversible drive changes its direction of travel, such as its direction of rotation while the data is acquired; identifying (142) portions of said data; and grouping said identified portions of data in various groups; wherein each of the identified portions of data relate to a particular direction of travel of said reversible drive and said plurality groups relate to different directions of travel of said reversible drive; and wherein said grouping together identified portions with data relating to a particular direction of travel is done by adding successive portions (144, 146) to an accumulation of previous data portions also relating to the particular direction.
