REPEATABILITY OF CANE YIELD AND YIELD COMPONENTS IN SEEDLING AND SUCCEEDING CLONAL STAGES OF SELECTION IN SUGARCANE

摘要

A study on the repeatability of characters by simple phenotypic correlation showed that most of the yield components viz., No. of millable canes, Single cane weight, Cane diameter, cane length with cane yield and sugar yield were highly repeatable while significant and positive correlations were recorded between sugar yield and quality parameters viz., brix, sucrose, CCS and purity per cent in both the clonal generations. It may be possible to make selections for high yield and quality exercising appropriate selection pressure. Cane yield and sugar yield are strongly correlated in both the clonal generations. Cane diameter and NMC are the most reliable characters for selecting clones at seedling and clonal stages.
