Y.A.H.E. (Yet Another Helix Experiment)

These experiences were frustrating, but educational. I have progressed from inexperience andignorance to some semblance ofunderstanding the requirements for a receive system for AO-40mode S. By the time you read this, AO-40 may have successfully reached its final orbit, deployedits solar panels, and begun full transponder operation. The requirements for the receive systemmay end up being less demanding than what the experimental period provided, but it will neverhurt to have a "better" receive system. I can summarize what I learned in two simple postulates:1. the gain should be in the antenna (first)2. the lowest NF should be in the preamp (first).
