Accurate inspection measurements are necessary in many industrial applications. Optical 3D scanners (laser, fringe projection) are used more and more often, replacing CMMs because of their benefits in speed, number of acquired measurement points and also increasing accuracy. Industrially produced parts are often problematic for structured light scanning because they are made of reflective or dark (thus, hard to scan) materials such as metals or some plastics or they are even translucent such as some plastics or glass. Parts made from such materials are difficult to scan or it can be even impossible to capture the surface. In such cases special temporary coatings are applied on the surface of the part to be scanned. These coatings usually make thin white matte layer that can be easily removed or evaporates on its own after some time.
