A novel stable electrospun gel polymer electrolyte [(100-x)% P(VdF-co-HFP)+(x)% P(TFE), (x = 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 & 30)/1 M Li(CF_3SO_2)_2N~-] fibrous membranes with an addition of various concentrations of hydrophobic P(TFE) polymer were prepared by an electrospinning technique. All the prepared electrospun polymer blend fibrous membranes were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, high resolution scanning electron microscopy techniques and water contact angle measurements. The newly developed electrospun pure and hydrophobic P(TFE) blend fibrous membranes were activated into separator-cum gel polymer electrolyte fibrous membranes by soaking in an electrolyte solution contains 1 M Li(CF_3SO_2)_2N~- in EC: PC (1:1, v/v) in an argon filled glove box. Among the various concentrations of hydrophobic P(TFE) blend polymer fibrous membranes, the electrospun gel polymer blend electrolyte with 5% P(TFE) showed low crystallinity, high thermal stability, high electrolyte uptake, good hydrophobicity and high ionic conductivity (2.680×10~(-2) S cm~(-1)) at room temperature.
