摘要

Drospirenone (DRSP) combined with ethinyl estradiol (EE) is commonly prescribed oral contraceptive pills (OCP) (1) and related to a 6.3-fold increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) when compared to non-users (2). DRSP-containing OCPs are the first-line treatment option for polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)(3), a predisposing condition for VTE. We examined the influence of an EE and DRSP-containing OCP on the viscoelasticity of whole blood clot formation as well as morphological characteristics of red blood cells of a female with PCOS compared to a healthy female.
