FOUNDATION OF SERBIAN MINERAL RESOURCES POLICY

Mineral resources (MR) are essential for the functioning of modern societies, and access to these MR is a vital to the economy of the EU. The aim of the Serbian Mineral Resources Policy development is based on the need to reduce the contradictions, i.e. to review the existing forms and find out new forms of MR sector governance. Development of the Policy is the desire of the country, business entities, and experts in order to define the co-existent, valid and realistically applicable platform for the MR sector that should ensure sustainable management by the MR, based on the solutions acceptable for all parties. This MR Policy, both for the mining and geological activities should be placed in the concept of the overall social and economic sustainable development of the country. The creation of this strategic document is a multiphase process. In the first phase of this process, data and information were collected staring from data on the existing MR, legal, institutional and educational framework, relevant participants and stakeholders, to the data on current state of extraction its impact on the environment as well as its economic and social importance. Such systematized data are sufficient basis for strategic decision-making.
