To mitigate the impacts of climate change on agricultural ecosystems, soil carbon sequestration is to be enhanced and water degradation is to be prevented. In this study, the effects of fertilizer types (chemical fertilizer and manure compost), cropping systems, and crop residue management on SOC (Soil Organic Carbon) sequestration and nutrient losses in runoff were investigated. Summer corn and winter barley were cultivated on experimental plots under natural rainfall condition for two years. Four fertilizer treatments were laid out: control without fertilizer (CTL), chemical fertilizer (CF), manure compost at standard rate (OF1), and manure compost at double standard rate (OF2). Soil and runoff samples were collected and analyzed for SOC for soil and water quality constituents for water samples. The observed average SOC concentrations were 2.79, 2.57, 4.90, 7.22 g C kg- -1 for CTL, CF, OF1, and OF2 treatments, respectively. The observed average T-N concentrations in soil were 0.41, 0.42, 0.50, 0.78 g N kg -1, for CTL, CF, OF1, and OF2 treatments, respectively. The observed average T-P concentrations in soil were 0.67, 0.74, 0.78, 0.97 g P kg - -1 for CTL, CF, OF1, and OF2 treatments, respectively.
