This paper studies the guidance algorithm of an anti-missile-missile (AMM) system, which defends the SAM site from randomly maneuvering air-to-surface missiles (ASMs). In relation to the velocity loss caused by the trajectory shaping of the ASM, the idea of the "specific velocity (SV)" is introduced. It is employed as an index of the threat for the ground site. The guidance algorithm of the AMM is based on the proportional navigation combined with an extended Kalman filter (EKF). The navigation gain is tuned in relation to the SV and the noise intensity which is studied in detail. The result shows this guidance system extends the interceptable region and increases the kill probability against the ASM.
