Bronchoscopy and Interventional Pulmonology in Hungary

Background: Quantitative and qualitative features of bronchological procedures have been monitored in Hungary. The aim of the current work is to introduce the bronchological routine in the year 2009.Methods: Questionnaires from the Hungarian Association for Bronchology are sent annaually to the bronchological labs. The content of these questionnaires is modified regularly. The survey is performed in adult and pediatric centers.Results: Different diagnostic procedures are performed in almost all bronchological labs, but therapeutic procedures are performed only in well equipped centers. Four labs have EBUS, five have fluorescens equipment and one has electromegnetic navigation system. In five centers, there is opportunity to perform laser, in six elec-trocauter, in eight afterloading treatment and in two stent implantation. Most centers perform transthoracic needle biopsy, too.Conclusions: Based on this observation, renewel of the latest diagnostic and therapeutic guideline published in 2005 is planned. Physicians need more encouragement to report their experiences in national and international congresses. The benefit from organizing the 16th World Congress for Bronchology and Bronchoesophagology might result in wider application of the latest technologies.
