Ionospheric Disturbance Effects on Earth's Environment

Dynamical processes in the sun deliver charged particles and associated fields to the earth's environment, causing geomagnetic disturbances at the earth's surface. Data from equatorial and low latitudes were analysed, which enabled us to study both the dynamics and ionospheric effects on the earth's environment. From the analyses of the effects of severe magnetic storms, it was found that coronal mass ejections (CMEs), which has posed great challenges for space weather forecasters, for long now, that triggered major interplanetary disturbances was responsible for these storms. It was equally observed that they cause power cuts, tripping of circuit breakers and transformer damage, communications are distorted during storm-time, and satellite life-times are shortened. Storms could also cause malfunctioning of human nervous system, and research report from some mescal team has recorded that large number of sudden deaths from cardiovascular diseases occurs within the first few hours of a geomagnetic storms. It was found that most of these severe storms occur after the appearance of coronal mass ejection. These disturbances affect weather and climate in the vicinity of their environment. Consequently, they generate malfunction of railway signals, radio communication, telecommunications and satellite systems. Hence, we suggested further work on the prediction of arrival time of solar flare, CME, and geomagnetic storm, as this will help to prevent damage and save lives.
