MAIN OBSTACLES THAT UNDERMINE A SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT OF SOLID WASTE IN LATIN AMERICA

The last decade has witnessed important advances in solid waste management in some Latin American countries. These advances are mainly associated with the implementation of national public policies which regulate the collection, treatment and final disposal of solid waste services. A clear step forward brought about by the implementation of the public policies is the migration from final disposal in open dumps to final disposal in sanitary landfills.
