AN INVESTIGATION OF QUANTITY AND QUALITY OF RUNOFF FROM WOOD MULCH STOCKPILES

Tree stumps, tree parts and whole trees are ground twice at wood recycling facilities in New Jersey (USA) and the wood chips are stockpiled in the open until being marketed as wood mulch. Runoff from wood recycling facilities consists of leachate (rainwater that percolates through stockpiles) mixed with runoff from other areas of the recycling facility.
