ACWA- ALGAE CULTIVATION FOR SIMULTANEOUS WATER TREATMENT AND BIOGAS SUBSTRATE PRODUCTION

We research a dual functioning system including algae cultivation for wastewater treatment and biomass production for co-digestion with other wastes. Further, we strive to focus on the recovery of resources and as an example we want to promote recycling nutrients to arable land. The algae, produced from lake water inoculum, can later be co-digested with any other substrate, most typically food waste or wastewater sludge, for biogas production. Overall aim is to explain the transportation of carbon, nutrients and relevant trace elements through the system.
