The management of solid wastes in Africa requires the development of strategic and adapted plans taking into account local specificities but often ignorance of the quantities of waste is a constraint. It is even worse for secondary cities in sub-tropical Africa: in the context of decentralization they must manage their wastes but with poor technical and financial resources. In West Africa very few studies exist on the characterization of household solid waste.
