LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT OF ROAD PAVEMENT BASE AND FOUNDATION COURSES CONTAINING RECLAIMED ASPHALT PAVEMENT (RAP)

During their service life, road pavements are subjected to repeated loading by vehicles in transit and to the aggressive action of environmental factors (e.g. solar radiation and water). As a consequence, they may exhibit functional or structural distress phenomena which require maintenance or rehabilitation works to be performed. In particular, in the case of flexible pavements, milling of the upper bitumen-bound layers is frequently prescribed, with the consequent accumulation of significant amounts of waste material usually known as reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP).
