A PILOT SEPARATION PLANT: PLASTIC RECYCLING IMPLEMENTATIONS TO ELIDE LANDFILLING

A pilot separation system was installed in a real scale waste mechanical separation plant in order to evaluate the efficiency of plastic material separation from municipal solid waste. The aim of this research concerns to Advanced Recycling Implementations to Elide Landfilling through plastic recovery, a part of a LIFE+ European project, named ARIEL (http://www.life-ariel.eu). In particular this paper will show the results of several months of the plant activity through two optical sorters (one for bottles and one for plastic film - see Figure 1).
