Heavy metal pollution is considered as one of the mostserious problems worldwide and has significantenvironmental and human health impact. Cadmium andlead contamination is widespread due to their intensiveuse. Heavy metals are always found in the environment inthe mixtures rather than as single elements. Within the lastseveral decades scientific and regulatory concern over theecological effects and risks assessment of chemicalmixtures has increased as mixtures of chemicals usuallyelicit different toxicity to living organisms. The aim of thestudy was to investigate the effect of lead (Pb) andinteractive effect of the binary mixture of lead (Pb) andcadmium (Cd) to the growth of spring barley (Hordeumvulgare L.). The seedlings of barley were treated withsingle Pb (ranging from 0.1 to 100 mg/L) and Pb mixturewith Cd. Single and combined metal treatment impairedthe growth of spring barley, altered the content ofphotosynthetic pigments and induced lipid peroxidation.
