The decline in American eel (Anguilla rostrata) and hydro-climatic changes in the St. Lawrence River, Canada

Different abundance indices of American eel {Anguilla rostrata LeSueur) in the lower St. Lawrence River (SLR), eastern Canada, over the past 50 years were assessed to determine the effect of hydro-climatic factors on the species decline. Daily catches at commercial weirs and at an experimental fishery were used to model the long-term trend in eel availability.
