Mucin and cytokeratin expression in signet-ring cell carcionoma cells

In order to make clear the relationship between mucin and cytokeratin espression in gastric signet-ring cell carcinoma, we immunohistochemically investigate mucins (MUC 2, MUC 5AC, MUC 6) and cytokeratins (CK 7, CK 20) expression in a total of seventy gastric carcinoma cases. The signet-ring cell carcinoma cells revealed po-stivity in 19 cases for MUC 2, 57 cases in MUC 5AC and MUC 6. CK 20 and CK 7 showed positivity in 45 cases and 61 cases, respectively. There was a significant relationship between the positivity of MUC 2 and CK 20. It was not statistically significant between the positivity of MUC 5AC and MUC6, and CKs. In signet-ring cell carcinoma cells, the expression of the intestinal mucin phenotype related with the specific cytokeratin expression.
