摘要

The majority of human bacterial and fungal pathogens (up to 60% by some assessments) also produce disease in various animal species.' Additionally, animals are subject to infection with a large number of host-specific pathogens, many of which occasionally cross species barriers producing zoonoses. Differences in laboratory practices between human and veterinary testing laboratories relate to the spectrum of disease-producing agents, identification schema (biased towards the predominant host species), antimicrobial agents, guidance documents and regulatory requirements.
