Exploring Verbal Processes in Discussions of Research Articles in Spanish

摘要

The first aim of this paper is to identify in a brief corpus of Research Articles' Discussions in Spanish the verbs that realize Process in verbal clauses, the kind of Participants related to them and the type of projection in which they are involved, as a contribution to a collection of data for the future construction of a descriptive resource for verbal Processes in the language under focus. It will also intend to show the recurrent environment of these Processes and discourse functions in the selected text-type. The corpus explored is integrated by 16 texts from 4 different disciplines (Sociology, Economy, Microbiology and Ecology) and the analysis has been made manually as a first exploration. This work is based on Halliday's developments for English (1985/94), Caffarel (2006) for French and Anis (2007) for Transitivity in Spanish. It is also related to other studies which main goal is to contribute to the description of a range of languages using systemic functional theory of language in context, providing for functional roles of grammar in discourse in context across registers and text type, as those framed by the Systemics Across Languages Research Network.
