We present our approach for developing a laboratory information management system (LIMS) software by combining Bjorners software triptych methodology (from domain models via requirements to software) with Arlow and Neustadt archetypes and archetype patterns based initiative. The fundamental hypothesis is that through this Archetypes Based Development (ABD) approach to domains, requirements and software, it is possible to improve the software development process as well as to develop more dependable software. We use ADB in developing LIMS software for the Clinical and Biomedical Proteomics Group (CBPG), University of Leeds.
