This study proposes a novel hybrid composite combined with carbon fibre reinforced polypropylene (CFRPP) and self-reinforced polypropylene (SRPP). SRPP has an intrinsic behaviour of shrinkage under high temperature. When SRPP is consolidated with CFRPP by hot pressing, compressive pre-stress is accumulated in CFRPP by the shrinkage and presumably improves the tensile properties compared with CFRPP without SRPP. Semi-crystalline thermoplastics are known to be strongly affected by cooling rate, therefore in this research, we also characterize process dependent properties of CFRPP and SRPP. The hybrid composites are then fabricated in the optimal process condition; consequently their tensile properties are investigated.
