Today's requirements for lithium-ion batteries in terms of durability and safety for automotive applications steadily increase. One aspect is cost awareness over a complete life cycle in EV and HEV battery systems. But also ensuring quality for series production from cell level to system level requires new and fast methods for quality validation. This paper gives an outlook if electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) can be applicable onside a car or beside production lines. As today's typical static characterization of batteries is time consuming, a frequency based approach could overcome the current limits.
